Damien,

By default, students do not have a database allocated to them in MIS.  Your MIS administrator is the only person who can create these databases from somewhere in MIS - it's been a long time (& I've since given up on using MIS for hosting web pages) .  We had a large number of the databases  not working after the MIS administrator created the accounts, so we had to forward the account details to the help desk and they set up all the databases that didn't work.

I have just finished a 2 day course with Richard Kelly and Paul Herring, and we ran xampp very successfully from memory sticks.  Xampp runs a database and web server from their memory stick and hosts it through localhost.  This is how I will approach it next time I teach it, cos the kids can take the memory stick home and still access a web/database server.

Cheers & Beers

Cruickers.
