Josh,

If their choice of programming language allows them to demonstrate the syllabus
standard to which they are aiming, then I don't have problem.

If students have good skills in the programing language and can be productive
at a VHA level then I don't see a problem. If they don't know the language and
will face a significant amount of learning to be productive at a VHA level then
I see a plethora of problems.

Subject: Re: [qsiteict] IPT programming projects in alternative languages

I think it might be disappointing to a student if they had to use (what they
felt) was an inferior tool to get a piece of assessment done. If it takes care
of some aspects easily, perhaps it would be a good chance to modify the
assessment for that student to include some higher level thinking? More AI?

The bigger question I think is, are you testing Visual Basic or are you testing
programming skills? Lots of arguments for and against :D
