Well no joy when using -opengl. I just get a blank screen, no video. Running it
in raster works, as it should.

Curiously, my CPU shoots up when it should be playing, and only to 1/2 of the
raster engine's usage, which is encouraging.

I'm on Ubuntu 10.10, With linux .35, qt 4.7.1, Mobility 1.1.0, gstreamer
0.10.6-1

I'm using it on a NVidia ION platform. I've got the X accelerated drivers.

I'm using the stock qmlviewer binary. Prompted by your reply, I looked at the
options, and added -opengl and wow, what a difference! My QML barely breaks 5%
now. (should opengl be the default?)

I'll look again at video usage using an opengl-enabled viewer.

It can be accelerated, depending on elements installed on the system.
It's certainly accelerated on mobile devices.

What platform are you asking about?

It may also be related to video rendering, are you using QGLWidget based
viewport?

It depends on platform capabilities, HW accelerated decoding +
rendering (using overlay or texture streaming/etc).
