I'm not much into hunt, but the camping on air matresses part... I might have a suggestion.
My wife and I were camping in the Chiricahua Mts. (Southeast-ish AZ) using a queen-sized air matress and two military surplus cots. We froze our butts off also!!... the first night, anyway. The air in the matress gets pretty close to the temp of the ambient air. If it's 40° in the tent, it's gonna be real close to 40° in the matress no matter how many covers, blankets, etc. you pile on top of you. And that's damned cold for a quad to sleep on!
Second night, we decided to lay out two layers of insulation between the matress and us... we used one extra sleeping bag and and old blanket I carry in my van for emergencies. Then we put our sleeping bags on top of that. BIG, BIG difference.
We were able to spend the night resting instead of wasting our energy trying to keep warm. (Not that all methods of using energy to keep warm is a "waste" LOL... if ya get what I'm sayin' <wink>)
So... if you're ever stuck with the air matress again... try extra blankets under you rather than on top. I'm sure it will help.
Best!
