and love it! Its a rough surgery, but well worth it. My procedure took 9 hours to do! I think they
have gotten better at it by now. As long as you keep the catheters 'clean' and then sterilize them, you can use the same set over and over again! At the end of a day, the cath I had been using is put in a bleach/water solution, when all 30 have been used, they are boiled for 20 minutes. Have not had a uti in months! I think the bleach is the reason as that is the only thing I have changed.
I am a C5-6 and my stoma (hole) is to the right of my belly button. I can control how often I cath, by how much I drink. If I go on a day trip I can go all day without cathing.
I did have to have my urethra completely closed off after a while as I would leak during transfers
and such. I do have to tell docs etc. when I go in for a surgery that the stoma is the 'only' way to get to my bladder. take care,
