Our thoughts are with you Sylvia.  I'm so sorry to have lost a net friend so suddenly.

Yes, Sarah aka Smurf, summed it up well.  I was corresponding with him via the quad list when he was on because we both had a similar wound.

Yes, his energy will go on without  doubt and he was one of the kindest & wisest members on the q-list.  I must ask, however, ... was the surgery for his wound?  A heart attack as the final killer?  Hmmmmmm

I'm tired of the cliche "nothing can bring him back" albeit being true.  But was he in for wound surgery?  Unless there is ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER option for myself to be treated (including a year in bed at home if need be) I won't go into a hospital these days.

The horror stories I've been hearing by patients & employees ... there's a good chance that someone coming out alive (especially quads or the elderly) is against the odds.

People get so weary of fighting to get quality care from those who are supposed to do no harm.  But dammit, we the people need to take a stand and get those "seemingly good" quacks OUT of the profession.

* June 1995 - A neurosurgeon let cerebral spinal fluid leak out of the back of my head for TWO WEEKS (after negligence in surgery) before he went back in to solve the problem.  AFTER I got meningitus from the leak which made me comatose with a temp over 105.  I'm convinced he was waiting for me to die as he did "research" on cadavers with my condition of syringomyelia.

** August 1995 - came home from that hospital in June but in July I had a hugely swollen left leg that was hard as a rock.  Being 5 hrs from the hospital... I kept calling with my symptoms.  They poo-poohed it as just swelling.  A net article told me I could have a clot.
I called my local physician and went in.  Even though I had had CLASSIC TEXTBOOK symptoms of a deep vein clot ... he doubted it but sent me for a sonogram.  I never left the hospital that day.  My clot was so extensive it could have caused a deadly pulmonary embolism and instant death.  I had to stay in the hospital on heparin  week.

***  Back in November of 2004 I got a UTI (I'll be plagued with
those for the rest of my life of course but...)
that had Proteus as the bugger (no pun intended ).  And
my Dr wasn't going to treat it!  Granted (and I KNOW THIS)..
something will always colonize around my foley catheter but
if it's one of four (Proteus, Salmonella, Pseudemonas or
Shigalla)... YA DON'T LET THOSE GO NO MATTER WHAT!  Potentially lethal.
If it weren't for Dave and his microbiology knowledge ..
I would have said ok to not treating.  When Dave heard
it was Proteas in the urine ... we insisted on treatment.

Unfortunately, being a stronger bugaroo and they did
no "follow up" culture ... it came back.  I started having
lower abdominal pain a week ago and it didn't let up.
I knew right away what must have happened but they have
to do ANOTHER culture TO MAKE SURE what bug it is &
what med to be put on that it'll react to.

** My brother-in-law (very very healthy 59-yr-old) had a routine colonoscopy.  They saw something further up and the Dr insisted it be removed IN CASE it was benign and "your area has a high case load of colon cancer."  (Enough to scare patients into it).
The surgery went fine.  A month later (August 2004) he got violently sick.  Then sicker.  Some coincidence!  There was obviously a leak where the surgery was ... releasing colon material into the abdominal cavity.
He was so sick--looked like death.  Back in the hospital on IV anti-biodics.
All he wanted was to get better so he didn't sue for negligence.  But this surgeon is doing 5 or so opf these ASSEMBLY LINE surgeries a day!  Lining his pockets with $$$$ when the surgeries are probably unwarranted anyway.

My list for myself and others goes on.  Two friends, 3 more relatives....

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Folks I am not sure if this will get through without me subscribing, but am giving it a shot. I want to let you know that Gale had his surgery on the 4th, but he had many complications, and on the 11th he passed away from a heart attack. I do want to let you all know how much you meant to him on the list. He is free and walking with his grandson, and he knew that either way, he was going to improve the quality of his life. We are celebrating his life, not mourning his death on the 28th of Jan.
God Bless you all, and thankyou so much from Gale, for your fellowship.

Sylvia,

Thank you for informing us of Gale's passing.  I think I can speak on behalf of the group when I say Gale was such a lovely person who touched all of us at some point.  His body may have left the Earth, but his memory is something that can never leave us.  We will never forget, along with celebrating his freedom and independance - something he always strived to achieve.

Love Sarah aka Smurf xxx
