We've only had it about a year.  I got it after not having my AC nor my sump
pump in the basement after a storm.  Since then, I've only needed it once
for about 10 minutes :-)

Make sure that you have an automatic cut-off/lock-out switch, so that you
are not sending volts back into the electric company's power line.  That is
how repair people are injured while trying to restore your normal power.  Is
your Generac, powered by natural gas or fossil fuel?
