The wound vac itself looks harmless. But it can be very complicated piece of equipment. Its technical. You can't buy a machine, they are rented for a specific period of time. The wound must be sealed with NO leakage during the healing process. There is a vacuum alarm that advises its user if the system senses a loss of vacuum. There is also a battery alarm for those who are mobile. Best Wishes In a message dated 1/29/2014 12:58:54 A.M. Central Standard Time, daa...@aol.com writes:
I would go to the wound center and get a second opinion. I was being followed by a plastic surgeon, when I had a wound vacuum and a nursing agency. He had taken off and look at it every several weeks. He had to determine how long I used, until I was ready for plastic surgery a skin graft. Mine was my heel two years ago after an external fixater was not checked after surgery for foot drop and became gangrene. It wasn't very long ordeal 1 month in the hospital after surgery and 2 months on the wound VAC before the plastic surgery. Dana C 4-5 complete, 39 years In a message dated 1/28/2014 5:48:16 P.M. Wound Vac (the company) trained RN's on how the machine works, operates and how the unit is installed on the patient. The company teaches how to trouble shoot and resolve issues when they happen. So if a doctor says he has not had a lot of success, there must be a reason why. I've seen some excellent nursed that were dedicated to the artform, and some who were not and considered their job, a task. Your doctor knows you and your body much better than I so I would do what your doctor insist. Best Wishes In a message dated 1/28/2014 5:16:13 P.M.
