How long is the surgery and recovery to get a colostomy? Does the bag stay at 
your side?

Yes... SP for 20+ years and Colostomy for about 6 months. 
Wish I got it sooner. I got it because I was stuck in bed with a pressure sore 
on my butt. 
Doing my b-program interfered with my sore.Greg
