The other amazing breakthrough has been in Japan. The Japanese doctors have fitted an SCI survivor with a metal cyborg-like frame that allows the person to walk for short periods of time. The breakthrough they didn't count on is that the body and the brain are relearning how to work together for the person to walk and the person who is testing the unit is able to walk longer and longer periods of time and the doctors think with this type of therapy it may be possible to retrain the body how to walk again without the apparatus. My husband saw a documentary on this in the past few weeks on TV.
