I made a similar gamble in buying a 64MB simm for a 630 dos compatible, sight unseen (all I knew was it was FPM, which I'd heard was the most important determinant of success), which sort of succeeded. It didnt work on the DOS side (was seen as only 16MB), but it was properly recognized on the Mac side. Interesting that the 630 manual stresses that whatever SIMM works on one side will work on the other. Probably it's in the faq, but I discovered an interesting site for field ID of hardware... <http://www.plasma-online.de/index.html?content=http%3A//www.plasma-online.d e/english/identify/serial/ram_hmc.html>. From that I discovered more about the simm from its markings, which were:
SEC Korea 852 = made by Samsung in Korea in 1998 in week 52 KM44V16100BS-6 = Samsung, Memory, DRAM, x4bit organisation, 3.3V voltage, 16MBit memory density, ?0.5k refresh?, FPM, 3rd generation, TSOP II (shrinked package), normal temperature range (0 to 70C), normal power, 60ns I may have got some of that wrong... especially not sure about the refresh bit... it depends what "MD" means on the website (memory density?)... And I still dont know what single- and double-banked actually means or what it looks like... presumably nothing to do with single or double sided. Anyway, the above may be a useful datum to someone collecting info on which 64MB SIMMs work in old Macs. Does anyone know what sort of 64MB simm will be properly recognized on the PC side? -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
