Seems that you've mixed two completely different things.

ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) and printer (serial) cables are not the same
thing - even connectors are different. 

As for printers, any Mac printer cable is a 'cross-over' one, so either
your switch-box does have non-standard pinout, or one of your cables is
non-standard. I'm not sure what cable you're calling "right regular ADB
printer cable", but most likely you have something wrong. Get a pair of
_standard_ (or, as you call it, "regular") printer cables - it should
work.
