Hi all, I've encountered strange problem on my Q-950 running v7.6.1: I've been working with it last evening (testing some 'new' software), and my wife asked me to reduce the sound volume, tired of its start-up chimes. I've opened 'Monitors & Sound' CP, and clicked 'Mute' checkbox. And guess what? At the next reboot, bang - the start-up sound was played at the full volume! I've checked the control panel again: the sound still muted, and all the system sounds - error beep etc. - are disabled (the screen blinks instead), but the start-up chime keeps to be at the maximum.
I've tried everything: moving all the volume sliders to the 'Minimum' position and checking 'Mute' checkboxes in both 'Monitors & Sound' and 'Sound' control panels, holding Shift during start-up, but nothing helps... As the last resort, I've switched start-up disk and booted from the another one, with MacOS v7.6, opened its 'Sound' control panel, and the volume slider appeared in the rightmost (maximum) position, with 'Mute' checkbox cleared. I've moved the slider to the minimum position and restarted the machine - start-up chime was really minimal. Tried to mute the volume altogether - it affects the system sounds only, while start-up chime is still audible. Switched back to the main MacOS v7.6.1 disk; the effect is still here: start-up chime doesn't want to be suppressed. Good news for me is, that I've at least reduced its volume, though. Any opinions?
