Hey Folks,
Maybe I am just behind the curve here, but today I discovered that you can put a
Quadra 650 motherboard into a Quadra 700 case, and vice versa. No hacking required. I
did it this morning. Everything -- screw hole, nubus slots, power supply -- lines up
perfectly. (Well, except the Q-700 only has two nubus slots in its case. You can only
use two of the three Q-650 slots.)
The only thing you lose, in each instance, is the ability to have an internal CD-ROM
drive. But the Q-700 never had one anyway, so why not get the extra speed? Plus the
RAM slots are easier to access!
Also, remember, the case for the Mac IIvx, IIvi, and Performa 600 are all identical to
the Q-650. So, you can upgrade these to a Q-700, if you want. But, don't forget, no
internal CD-ROM drive. Otherwise, it is a direct motherboard swap.
The Centris 650 should be just as interchangeable.
