-----Original Message----- I need to make decisions about my Performa 580 CD.
>Basically I need to know what to do to make this computer faster and able >to do more. (Isn't that what we all want?) >From LEM I get the idea that a 5500 board would fit in a 580 case. Might be able to find one reasonable on the swap list. Into that board I think you could put a G3 upgrade. >I also want to know if it is possible and worth it to get a CD burner? I picked up a couple of external SCSI CD burners off the swap list. One works excellent, the second I haven't hooked up yet. >What I do with my computer is: wordprocessing, alot of photos (scan, print, >archive, genealogy, graphics using Illustrator and Photoshop...). >I need to find software that is compatible with this computer and have not >found any used comp shops here that have a variety. Everything is for PCS. >Could you please give me some practical advice? Swap list members advertise all kinds of software, from Photoshop 3 to 6, from Illustrator 5 to 10. How far you're able to upgrade determines what software you'll be able to use. But if you're committed to all-in-one convenience and want a big upgrade for not a whole lot of money, see if you can get an iMac running 9.1 shipped to you for about $200: about a 10X increase in processor speed, 10X max RAM, probably, etc. etc. -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
