you can only network over scsi with a scsi to ethernet converter. you are much better off just using an ethernet card or any built in ether net, in which case you may or may not need adapters to go to 10bt. nearly any ethernet card will be fine, 10bt is fine, there's not much reason to go to 100bt as 68k machines can't keep up with a 10bt connection any way.
the only time a 100bt card might be worth while would be under some version of unix. of course if you have a dual speed ethernet hub/switch you may need a newer ethernet card that can tell it what speed it is (the older cards assume a 10bt hub, it was only later that the higher speed and handshake signals to let the hardware communicate it's speed capabilities came out so some newer hubs/switches can't tell that a 10bt has to run at the lower speed and won't work properly, though there are some tricks to sometimes get around that. overall if you have old macs it's best to buy a hub/switch with dedicated 10bt and 100bt ports). what machines are you trying to connect? if you are only hooking up 2 computers you can do it with a crossover cable and avoid a hub/switch completely until you add another computer/printer etc. on the network. dwight hines wrote: > > Ok, rather than get too complicated with Netatalk, the open source unix > based program, I thought it would be easier to go with old fashioned > apple talk and some scsi cables, although it appears I have some > ethernet ports on the two quadras. > > What would be the best way to proceed and who would suggest what NIC > (network interface cards) would be best to try and find on LEM or ebay? ----- -- "The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to the point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself.
