This is just a confrimation please. I think the alternator has gone on the car. The haynes gives a long explanation on how to check operation, but i believe that a quick check is to measure the battery voltage with the engine off expect 12-12.5 volts then start up the engine and the voltage should increase to around 13 volts as it is being charged.
I have no change in voltage with the engine off or on.
