When I changed the engine in the coupe from 1818 to 1400 I just got my local friendly mot centre to jot out a little letter confirming they had seen the engine in the car with XXXX engine numbers on it and that it had XXX capacity. The Dvla issued the new logbook and changed its tax class no other questions.

I submitted my change at the beginning of December, enclosing the V5 from the Quantum and the Mondeo Si donor, and got two letters back from different people (one for the H4, one for the Mondy) saying that I needed evidence. The list of acceptable evidence was: * receipt of purchase from garage confirming the engine number, engine size and fuel type * if an existing engine has been converted, written evidence from the garage that carried out the work * an inspection report from the AA or the RAC, or one provided for insurance purposes * written confirmation from the manufacturer containing the engine number and size I didn't have any of this, and certainly don't want to pay to have the non-running Mondy inspected just so that it can go off to the scrappy (sorry, "Authorised Treatment Facility" as they're now called!). I phoned DVLA and they said that they want some form of third party evidence that the engine swap has happened in the Quantum (thankfully they weren't so interested in the car to be scrapped) as it may have an impact on the taxation class (although 1.6 - 2.0 doesn't yet.....). The H4 was MoTed at the beginning of January and my local garage obliged with a letter. So that's been sent off with the V5 and I'm just waiting to see if that's ok as I'm reluctant to get rid of the Mondeo until I know that I don't need any further evidence from its V5...
