Using a spring balance to lift the boot by means of a piece of rope round the lifting lug, with the gas struts disconnected, the balance reads 10kg. This works out at circa 485N needed between the two struts just to keep the boot open. 600N seems a bit marginal to me when there's a strong wind blowing.
The extended length of the existing struts is 400 mm (to the nearest 5mm), which is interesting as 404mm is quoted for an Audi 100. Quantum Heritage do actually still have the original struts at £27.66 each but I'm going to look at the Audi options. Gary - according to http://www.autodemi.ba/new-products-2009.pdf, which may be wrong, the A3/A4 Avant 8D9 827 552 struts are a full 10 cm longer than the ones that are on our H4 at the moment. Did you need to compress them to fit them or did the boot just open further? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Quantum Owners Group" group.
