hi guys
been busy sorting a few issues, namely wiring and rattles

first the wiring
the Quantum had a tow bar that I removed, and decided to un-peel the
miles of insulation tape to re solder back together thinking it would
be a simple case of cutting out the tow bar joins and rewiring the
original loom back together, how wrong I was.....

it was a right rats nest of tape, butt connectors (that fell apart
once touched) dry solder joints un insulated and scotch locks (not to
be confused with Scottish lochs that are a different thing all
together) the whole thing fell apart leaving me to rewire from scratch
as I could not trace the wires, and then I had to do the other side
since although the 2 sides were linked together, the signal got lost
in translation somewhere and caused all sorts of strange goings on
like fogs on one side and the reversing light flashing the opposite
side?

anyway, after 2 days with my head stuck in the boot it now looks like
this

much better and less chance of going up in smoke, just got the windows
and stereo to do next :o

and the rattles

everytime the car went over a pebble in the road it sounded like it
was going to fall apart, was hoping it wasn't actually going to fall
apart so set about trying to make the car rattle free, there was
evidence that the bonnet had been contacting the bulkhead (for some
time since the gelcoat had worn through) so this was my first port of
call, I mounted a long strip of closed cell foam across the rear edge
of the bonnet that not only hid the worn patches but now just touches
the bulkhead when closed, buffering it nicely and giving a production
car finish to the edges.

also noticed that the washer bottle had been inconstant contact with
the underside of the bonnet (presumably from build?) and was the cause
of the out of alignment at the driver side top edge, so that was also
removed in favour of a bag type reservoir and less chance of rattles
here, test drive was markedly more civilised and refined...... however
ive one more potential cause of rattles and im not sure im gonna like
the answer so here goes

the left hand side light cover wobble just slightly, not enough to
notice visually but enough to cause a clonky rattle when you wiggle it
side to side that resonates through the bonnet like a giant speaker,
so how can I replace the hinge? ive a feeling it doesn't just unscrew?
other than that does anybody know of a way to help reduce its
movement / rattles?
ive heated up some thick underbody seal and dripped it onto the hinge
and operated the lights up and down till it cooled and thickened again
which has had a good effect of dampening the rattles but still not
perfect,
as always any help will be much appreciated
cheers
