I've just looked at the V5C, and it states date of first reg 01/08/2009, and
gives no mention anywhere of MOT date, so I guess it's 3 years from date of
first reg just likeany other new car? It has an age related number plate.

Yes that is why I asked the question! A typical example was my Q, which was
built from entirely new parts and was registered as a new car so did not need
an MOT for 3 years but the Beauford is made entirely from a 92 Sierra.
Beauford Cars say it is required as do about 50% of the DVLA downloads but in
the registration pack that I received from DVLA there is no mention, hence the
confusion!
By the way, are you blocking me on direct email as I sent you a message
regarding alternator problems about a week ago and, very unlike you, I have had
no reply - the problem is probably solved now as the battery light, although
new, was not making good contact on the instrumentation printed circuit board.
When the battery light comes on at switch-on there is no problem. Contacts!
