I agree the ford KA (pronounced car) is the way forward, this will offer power steering as an option for the 2+2 and offer a 1.6I engine. also id say the 2+2 is a safe bet for fettling / updating since its already proved its worth in standard form by standing the test of time so well so far.
one part i would like to see "updated" on the 2+2 is the boot lid, its a bit large and slab like for such a small car, could use a nip and tuck here. not necessarily reduced in size just more in profile.
