Well done that man! what a beast to unleash.
Jeckyll or Hyde? all depends on how far the throttle is pushed.

Subject: [Quantum Owners] Fiat Quanturbo MOT

Sailed through yesterday with 173 miles on the clock - 140 of which
were the trip to the MOT station nearest the place I built it, just in
case I needed spares... the only issues were resolved before it went
in, with for some reason, the horn, one sidelight, and one indicator
failing on the trip.

But no problems with the engine... except for the utterly
schizophrenic nature of the beast: it goes from a gentle, civilised,
quiet 5-cylinder burble at cruise to a howling screaming whistling
banshee once the throttle's opened. I need to do some work on the
intake routing to remove some sharp edges and some resonances.

More urgently, I need to sort out the springs: I need an inch and a
half, maybe two inches at the front and an inch at the back, with
about 50% more stiffness - that's a heavy lump; the all up weight is
just on 1000kg which was something of a surprise. Under braking, the
front is dipping enough to touch the arches on the tyres - not too
good - and the ground clearance I managed to measure at 85mm.

The pedals need some attention to move them a little to the left and
separate them a bit, but that done, all that's left is interior trim.
The Fiesta centre console will go back after some surgery to
accommodate the larger gearstick mount, and I need to do something
complicated with the fascia surround; I might need to get the glass-
fibre out. After that, just a wander round the stalls at Stoneleigh
for some new carpet and such. And perhaps a new hood, and a respray,
and...

Neil
