Hi Neil,
Didn't you change your hubs to XR2i ?
Ford certainly did keep things standard from the Mk3 Fiesta on but the Mk1/2
Fiestas have the caliper mounting lugs are closer to the centre of the hub
and i never found anything else that would bolt straight on from other
Ford's.
I eventually welded up the fixing holes in some Mk4 Escort RS turbo
calliper brackets and redrilled them further out but it was never something
i was entirely happy with, welding on the calliper bracket.
Paul, Check you have the correct size rear cylinders fitted, i can't
remember what size they were now but it wasn't one of the standard sizes,
it's in the build manual.
My 2+2 has the G valves fitted as per the build manual but i know that some
Quantums don't have them.
Mk2 XR2 brakes and discs will bolt on in place of the lower spec ones with
the matching calliper mounting bracket.
Don't forget the master cylinder, servo and the brake pedal are also
different between the XR2 and non-XR2
Jim

Subject: [Quantum Owners] Re: 2 +2 IVA Brake test failure
Paul,
I did a lot of investigation around xr2 brakes when I did the Fiat
20vt conversion. Ford seem to have arranged their calliper pickup
points on the hub to be the same through a lot of their models... on
mine, to replace the xr2 brakes with Mondeo 2.5 V6 brakes (!!!) I
needed only to drill out the locating holes to 12mm from 10mm (from
memory) and a little machining to the hub face to move the calliper
frame back half a mm to clear the discs.
I would expect that you would find the xr2 discs and brakes a simple
bolt-on change - but I would ask if you currently have new parts
fitted? New discs and pads make a fair difference to efficiency... you
may have difficulty getting the correct mounts for the xr2 - lots of
places will sell you callipers but not the frame. XR2 discs will fit
under

Hi Can anyone help, I have just had my 2+2 IVA tested and failed due
to the service braking efficiency being low, 55% needs to be above
60%. This is not helped by Quantum quoting a gross weight of 1300kg
the actual gross weight was measured at 1149kg (which if used puts the
figure over 60%). I have standard disc / calipers up front and
standard drums on rear ( not off xr2). and using G valves on rear
brakes. The hand brake efficiency was fine but when operated from
brake pedal appeared to be over compensated. All items are new, and in
good condition.
Has any one operated the rear brakes without the G valves ?. Can a set
of xr2 front discs and calipers be fitted in place of the smaller
standard disc/ caliper set up on the front. Any help would be
appreciated. Paul
