Dan,

from memory when I did previous Xtreme with Pinto, I used the original
sierra engine mounts and the cam cover fitted under the bonnet-
just. The oil filler cap had to be changed for a lower cap that I got
from Halfords for a few quid.

Not sure why your engine sits so high with the cam cover hitting the
bonnet.

I had a single downdraught weber carb without filter, but the
clearance was small, power was down and you needed to watch out for
scorching on the underside of the bonnet due to flashback from the
carb.
Initially, I fixed some fire retardant material to the underside and
this solved the fire risk issue.

However, as power felt limited, I cut a 65mm hole in the centre of the
bonnet and it improved immediately. After this I fitted an oval K & N
filter with an oval cut-out in the bonnet, obviously.

If you ended up doing this, you could turn this hole into an air
intake grille with another matching one on the other side: may not
look too bad.

Regards,

Ian Mac
