I've found some 3/8 BSP plumbing fittings difficult to come by - though you
may find a plumbers merchants that has 1/2 to 3/8 reducers. Beware that
plumbing threads are available in both parallel and taper thread!

1/2bsp is too big, that's the nub of the problem.
I need something like 3/8bsp to 1/2bsp converter which incorporates a
90deg bend, has a 13mm / 1/2" bore throughout and terminates in a pipe-
end suitable for connecting an oil pipe.
I can see myself using plumbing fitting and soldering/welding
something up from plumbing fittings though.

I've managed to get a spare oil pump and filter housing, and cut it to
remove the filter mount leaving just 2 oil passages.
There are indeed 2 oilways - obviously in&out. Easy enough.
Size-wise it should definitely fit now, even with the 2 pipes coming
out of the end.
One of the oilways is rectangular in section, so a bit of careful
drilling is required to get it to the point where it can be tapped.
The other is circular, much easier.
Only one thing....most of the oil system pipe adapters are 1/2BSP
fitting. I've got taps for that, but it's HUGE.
1/2BSP thread major diameter is approx 21mm. There isn't enough metal
to go that big.
3/8BSP would be OK, except the thread size of 16.6mm doesn't leave
much wall-thickness due to the 13mm bore.
3/8bsp was designed for pipe with a 10mm(ish) bore.
17mm? Slightly better, but I think metric has deeper threads so may
actually be worse.
Hmmm...just had a thought. I could use the body of an old spark plug,
weld a 1/2" tail to that....pretty sure I've got a tap to fit it....
