Winter tyres is an interesting subject and what I saw with my own eyes last
year confirms that your average motorist is pretty stupid, using lots of
revs and low gears in snow is just going to end up nowhere.
Modern cars with their super wide tyres are useless in slippery conditions.
The best car I have used in the snow was a poverty spec Hillman Imp which
would go any where, ah but hang on when I did grass tracking the tiny little
Subaru Jesty was a marvel, both these cars had skinny tyres.

What Hans says is correct.
There is a lengthy discussion on the same subject on British rally
forum [you have to register to read]
If you send your personal e-mail to vince.qoc[at] gmail.com [NOT reply

Basically yes all 4 wheels
Check e-bay for cheapo wheels [use the filter system to get numbers
down fo price and local] also look at alloys and 14"
BRF discussion also comments on best tyres [you can overtake 4x4 with
the grip apparently] - you may wish to check what make tyre and
availability to go for before getting wheels ,unless of course you
already have tyres sourced.
Can't help with later fords except my alloys came off a mk3

Hiya folks
I am thinking of getting some steel wheels, and fitting them with
winter tyres...
Q2-002 is based on a Mk2 XR2 - will standard Fiesta Mk4/5/Ka 155/70/13
standard factory wheels fit, or is it a case of try and see?
Also If I fit winter tyres to the front - will it make any real
difference?
Finally - do I *really* need to fit winter tyres all round, or can I
keep the normal summer tyres on the rear, and just have the steels
with 13" on the front.
I currently have 14" 185 Alloys all round.
Thanks
