Was this the inner or outer end ?
Can you take a picture, i'm not sure how the balls could escape from the joint. unless i'm thinking of a different type.

Finally got around to removing the driveshaft andCV joints

As suspected, the centre was still attached to the Driveshaft and the
ball-bearings
were left behind in CV casing amongst the grease.

Before disassembling, we checked for excessive movement on the
suspension, ie. front / rear and side to side.
No problem found.

Does anyone have a "old" XR2 driveshaft that they could provide
mesurements from for comparison with mine?

I have a replacement CV Joint on order - should get it next week.

Hi,

The saloon has a slightly wider track than the Fiesta Mk2 and it could
be that some makes of CV joints are able to tolerate this better than
others. I have standard XR2 shafts on my car.

An old build manual does mention Mk1 Fiesta drive shaft/shafts, as
being too short.
