If it's a CVH then.
One top leg of the Y comes all the way round from either a T off the bottom
rad hose or a separate outlet on the water pump (depends on car and age).
The other top leg of the Y comes from the inlet manifold.
The bottom of the Y goes to one side of the heater matrix.
The other side of the heater matrix goes back to the small outlet on the
stat housing (this outlet is before the stat).

Subject: [Quantum Owners] heater Y piece
having trouble finding the answer to this, and ive asked in 4 places
so far
could you guys take a look at your Y pieces in the heater matrix
circuit and tell me which way they go please?
in my wisdom when i replaced the matrix last year i used a T piece as
it looked better and the pipes fell in the right position, but i only
get warmth through the matrix when the stat is closed (presumable
because there is more pressure) but when the engine warms up it all
go's cold inside, presumable because I've put the T piece with the
straight edge going across the manifold and the single leg going to
the union into the manifold, i guess that the Y piece single leg goes
to the manifold and the 2 closer legs go to the 16mm heater hosed?
any info much appreciated, a picture even more so.
