Hi I am also looking to refurb/replace my engine the the 2+2. I have a spare CVH 1600 from the Coupe and could use either the current one or that as a basis. Sounds like using the existing one and not having to change the engine numbers is a good idea. I have a local machine shop (in Coventry) who would do machining, etc if I want do assembly. They normally do race engines and seem to have a good rep. But they say they will be pricy if they do the whole job for me. (I thought it very interesting they would work with an individual customer like that.) Maybe that is the way from the responses below. I was thinking of Specialised Engines exchange otherwise due to the warrantee they should give. But I will have to put the engine in myself as the car will be getting the whole front and frame stripped protected and reassembled with new parts.
Maybe the warrantees are not worth much anyway? I tend to do low milage and keep for long term use. (Q is 14 now) If I do it myself I was looking to keep it fairly standard with maybe some porting and a mild road cam. That said all the CVH mild cams seem to be unavailable at present people seem to want the hotter versions. I also like the principle of balancing the engine. As I am a 'lazy' driver who prefers not to rev the engine to bits just to get round the corner maybe a standard cam is best anyway? Any experience on that? Luckily with the Coupe up and running I can take the 2+2 off the road for a while with no issues.
