I had mine done at Specialised Engines in Essex. They rebuilt it in 7 days and sent me photos every day on its progress (I can recognise my own engine), they repainted the engine in red instead of black and the rocker cover at no extra cost. They said the CVH lifespan was 100,000 miles in between rebuilds, which I can believe as it has given up at 125,000 miles both times.

I know it's been a while since anything has been added to this post but I thought I would let everyone know how I got on. With a recommendation from one of the guys I work with, I ended up using a local place in Peterborough called Lyndale Engines. They've been round a while (20 years plus) and my mate said they had a good reputation, especially with the motorsport groups. The downside is that it took 4 months instead of 4 weeks because of the way that Ford mixed and matched their parts at the time, but I now have a reconditioned engine. (With a nice black / silver paint finish so I didn't end up painting it blue.) Since fitting the engine, I have covered about 700 miles without any problems. No leaks, plenty of oil pressure and power / economy seems right (it's only 97bhp anyway). I'm just about to do the post run-in oli change and will tweak the timing / mixture slightly afterwards. They have said they would dyno it after my refit if I wanted, my problem is finding a suitable time. They normally put the Ford engines on a test car (an old stock car) and dyno them before they go out, but it doesn't take a CVH. So, Lyndale Engines. The work seems good, they did seem to know what they were talking about (I'm an aircraft engineer and I can usually spot BS). They asked if I wanted the water pump replaced on spec (yes) and gave me the old one and they gave me a breakdown of the cost as some of the parts were expensive (but the same sort of prices as I found elsewhere). The total cost was £1320. Although it seemed a little steep to me, I don't know how it currently compares with others, but the labour was about £350 and that was acceptable. Would I recommend them? So far, so good with my engine so, yes I would recommend them on the premise that you get what you pay for. It cost a bit more but it should be good for another 200,000 miles (I hope!) I hope this information is useful for anybody that needs it. Regards Dave -- -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Quantum Owners Group" group.
