Or, if the light is very dim, it could be that the plastic covers over the bulbs have aged and blackened. On my Saloon I had to take the cluster out of the car and just removed these (blue?) covers. Mine had ages so much that they hardly let any light through and were so brittle that they just disintegrated when removed. Ever since the light on the clusters has been fine.
