The intense opinion is based on my use case. Most of my images have the values accumulated in the shades and a tiny amount of highlight clipping (and if it's a single peak or a shoulder) makes the difference if the image is a hit or a miss.

Heck, I spend hours in the darkroom to max out b/w fineart prints, and before spending quite some money for 40"x60" prints, I'm rather safe than sorry what the REAL histogram is ;-)

I agree for an quick overview if the image exposure can be pimped to be usable a mini version is sufficient.
