Thats really great stuff Adrien, I love the Aphex Twin shot, good choice (Im a huge fan)

Ha! Yes, we had so much fun making Hey DJ we even wrote the content ourselves, hence all our favourite artists are in it. I'm amazed the client has no issues with our choices. I'm sitting here wearing an Autechre t-shirt - such a geek!

Are you using QC Visualizer for tiled display, or is each projector un-tiled? Are you using touch screens, or is there motion tracking etc? It looks very nice!

We're not using QC Visualizer anywhere (although we did consider it), instead we have our own (very basic) QCView based Performer app which stretches across the two displays on one ATI Radeon 2600. Performance is pretty good even for complex, iterator heavy compositions, although we have had to heavily optimise and take a lot of care to not use many CoreImage effects. The use of lots of Iterators and Composition Loaders was inevitable because of the content, and it turned out the NVIDIAs were un-usuable compared the the lesser powered ATIs. Strange but true.

All the content is client-manageable using Excel spreadsheets - they export to Tab delimited text files and a plug-in we wrote imports it on launch as a structure. That's quite a neat back-end feature.

Of the 49 exhibits we've made, nine of them are using ELO style touchscreens. There's no multi-touch, but Hey DJ is very responsive and smooth, even though it's monotouch (our catchphrase of choice). The typical feedback we've heard from people using it is that it feels like a giant multitouch surface, which is great to be able to trick people into thinking it's more advanced than it is. Lots of UI inertia helps the illusion!

re: self promotion,, I can say ive helped code some interactive QC stuff that is in movie theater for pre-shows for a theater chain. Its fun work, and in theory better than the '20 minutes of ads' you are forced to sit through, although I do worry about the moral issues of interactive ads being heavily abused... *shudder*. I know someone will have the idea of a sound reactive ad in a movie theater.. having a bunch of kids scream at the screen is *NOT* my idea of the right way to spend ones time before a feature. Ha!

That sounds pretty neat, I imagine movie theatre stuff has to run at high resolution - 2k? 4k? It would be interesting to see pictures if you've got any.

Anyone else using QC for unconventional purposes? Show and tell!

Best,

A.
