Thanks for the info (and validation). I have found a hack to make it
work, though I have no idea *why* it works.

In the course of my image manipulation search, I found an example that
cycled the hue of the desktop image using HSL adjust and an LFO (don't
remember where). Surprisingly, once the HSL adjustment was in the
chain... no flickering. I dialed everything down so that there was no
perceptible change to the display of the image. See attached.

When I take the Process the Image macro out of the chain (or simply
disconnect the LFO input) the flickering returns.
