Hi, our experience at Boinx Software is, that even small DV streams don't work in parallel on the same firewire bus. We blame it on a poor old protocol the video devices are using to send data via firewire.
We usually recommend using Sonnet USB/FireWire ExpressCard|34 for MacBooks or Startech 3+1 Internal Port PCI Express FireWire Card for MacPros to extend the computer with a second independent firewire bus.
