My hardware doesn't support R4.

I reinstalled Qubes again today and this time I didn't upgrade the Kernel, I
simply updated all packages in the VM templates and out of a sudden the
compatibility issues seem to be gone. Now my system doesn't freeze or crash
anymore :-) Have been testing it for a few hours now and the system seems to
run stable. Before, it always crashed during the first 5-10 minutes after
booting/logging-in.

First I updated all Debian packages manually (Terminal: sudo apt-get update)
and then I used the built-in Qubes Updater as well (to update both Debian and
Fedora).

So could it really be that easy and I simply needed to update a few packages to
fix all my compatibility problems (graphics glitches) ?

Won't I need to update the Kernel ?
