The NMEA specs call for 4800.  Is there some way to set
the Accord box to run at 4800?  That seems only sensible
if they are in the NMEA market.

What sort of custom format is this?  Why is it better than
the normal NMEA formats?  Is it enoug better to be worth
all the trouble of "fixing" a driver?

Lots of NMEA devices also have a binary mode.  Who cares if the
NMEA mode works well enough.  What does the binary mode tell
you that the NMEA mode doesn't?
