Hi Gary - after my 2nd bad experience with the beta yesterday, I just went ahead and reinstalled the main QP program ( that I downloaded from your link ) over the beta and so far all seems to be well again. Do you think there is really an advantage to uninstalling everything first? If so, could you explain? Thanks very much for your help!

Just click Update Database to apply the data that was downloaded. Start - Programs - Quotes Plus - Update Database. It should be ok after that.
