The big plus when you choose QWS over many other solutions is you don't have
to use scripts at all to work with it.
Another solution could also be to make access keys in the program it itself.
But I find pressing for example alt 1 for note alt 2 for duration and so on
just as anoying as pressing enter on the field listening to the value and
escaping out.
So yes in short: It's a usable dirty work around.

The only other quick work around that I can see is for jaws users to creat
frames for the status bar around each individual area for each individual
identifying characteristic and assign a keystroke to each frame position.
Dirty, but it seems workable.

page down or better jawskey page down then the intire line is read out
lout.
It can some times be a bit chalenging to remember all the information
presented on such a status line especially if there are many different
figures.
Yes, I can see that (ha ha). What I tend to do is if I want a particular
piece of info and if I can't catch it by reading the whole status bar is
to press the initial letter of the field (as if you were going to edit)
and then press ENTER to call up the normal edit dialog, then press ESCAPE
once you've heard what you want. Just don't press ESCAPE twice as it
will take you out of the editor.
How's that for a dirty work-around?
Of course, those with some scripting knowhow could write dozens of JAWS
macros to read each individual field, that would be possible as well.
