You got some advice, I'm just going to add a couple of points:
1) You need to create a track in QWS, otherwise there will be no sound. So
until you create a track you cannot test if the keyboard is working.
2) If the USB port has been correctly installed, you should be able to see
it on the list in options -> ports, in the MIDI IN devices bit. If it does
not appear there, there is a problem of some sort.
