All right, here's a detailed tutorial of how I did it with my yamaha. I would think this would be the same for other keyboards. Hopefully you don't do what I do, and spend two weeks fiddling with stupid drivers/cables and getting absolutely nowhere. Let's start from the beginning. You will need a USB midi interface, they look like a box thing with two chords sticking out of opposite sides. On one side there is a USB cable for plugging into the computer, on the other, the chord splits into two cables, the midi in and out cables. You will need to plug the midi in plug into the midi out plug of the keyboard. So, opposites attract here. Keep in mind that some interfaces might not have any tactile difference between the midi in and out plugs, so you might have to use trial and error for that one. Next it's easy. find the model of the midi interface you have, then look for a software driver for it. The interface might already come with a cd with the driver on it. Get that thing however you can and follow its installation instructions to install it on the PC. Then go into qws, and do the whole ports thing, go to options menu, ports, go to the midi in devices, make sure that the interface's use this port checkbox is checked. Remember to check the outputs too. Leave baby Wave Table alone. Now go back to the options menu, options, and set that to your interface, that way QWS always uses this port, then make sure the keyboard is working in check, and now! You're set. If you try doing things in QWS and get no sound, switch the midi in and out cables. If still nothing, then you might have to get support from the professionals. Good thing is, if you're using your keyboard for recording and playback, there is no lag unless your computer is running at ridiculously slow speeds. Okay, I know I've overwhelmed us with info, but one more little tip: If you are hearing your keyboard's sounds along with the sounds you're playing in QWS, you'll have to turn local off by going to the midi menu and choosing it. You'll have to turn it back on before closing QWS if you want to play the keyboard normally. Or, you can go to the options dialog and check the auto-send local messages option, if you would rather not worry about it. Feel free to e-mail me offlist if you need any specific pointers about qws or if this doesn't work, I can at least try to help. I would recommend asking this list first, since there are people here who could probably help more than I could.

Hi Jackie, Ray and all,

Well It's been a long day here in Erie stretching wires. But tuning pianos is like a fun meditation in harmony - I just love it! I have been great fully interested in hearing what you guys are trying on my behalf. Thank you! I will be trying out some of your suggestions on the morrow as soon as I get some time to myself. Lately, Susan and I, a contractor and an architect are in the deep doing major renovation to our current home. But that's another subject for some other list. Smile
\
Jackie, I did a search for asio on my computer and got notta in reference to sound.

Since I last spoke with Jackie, I have been also trying to figure out how to get sound out of my Kurzweil K26 using QWS on a fairly new laptop running Win-Eyes on a Win7 machine. Let me just say that so far I'm glad crying hasn't substantially compromised my manhood. I hate to throw this into the mix I have already created here, but if there's anyone on the list that can give me some pointers on how to set up my keyboard to work with QWS, please feel free. I'm very teachable and a quick study. I can do this I can do this I can do this!

Again, thank you everyone for being so willing to help an ol' rock star.

more smiles of course,

Johnny
