Hi,
Thanks for your mail and your kind comments about the new version of QWS.
Regarding the note preview in the Event List, it should hopefully function
about the same as how it works in the Note Editor.
About adding extra shortcut keys for tools in the main screen: it would be
easy to do, but Andre is right that L and R are taken. I only put in
shortcuts for those tools I thought would probably be used the most, hence
Transpose, Change Velocity and Quantise. I thought about adding G for
Time
Glide as that's one that can be useful before quantise, if you know if
you
tend to play ahead of or behind the metronome beat.
Incidentally, for interest, there is a full list of all the shortcut keys
at
the back of the manual.
Now, regarding note transform data: no, I didn't plan to make a section
on
the websit efor note transforms, but I would be open to doing this if
people
start supplying me with lots of potentially useful ones.
You're right, at present it is a manual copy/paste process to put them
into
y9our userxfrm.ini file.
About upgrading to future versions: this is why I created the userxfrm.ini
file: the preset note transforms will get overwritten by a new version,
they
are in the file notexfrm.ini. Anything that you put in userxfrm.ini
should
not be affected by an upgrade: the install program should note that you
already have user transforms and then leave that file and not replace it
with the blank template.
I hope this helps.
With best regards,
James.

Subject: QWS List QWS Update: version 1.55
Hello everyone,
I have just uploaded an update to QWS, version 1.55.
You can download it from the usual places:
http://qws.andrelouis.com
or
http://freespace.virgin.net/jr.bowden/
Here's a summary of the new features:
* Length split and Reverse tools
* Added a percentage parameter to the Set Length tool
* Preview of notes as you move onto them in the Event List
* More Note Transforms
* Create your own User Note Transforms
A small word of warning about upgrading to version 1.55: if you have
previously created your own note transforms and stored them in the file
notexfrm.ini, they will be overwritten by upgrading to QWS version 1.55.
To
keep your custom note transforms, transfer your custom transforms to a
new
file called userxfrm.ini. Instructions about making your own transforms
are
in the updated manual.
I hope you enjoy the new features.
With best regards,
James.

Wow, this is awesome! I love being able to hear my notes in the event
list
as I go through it. the nice thing is, if you tab away from the list, the
playing note is stopped. Also if a note is playing and you move to
another
note, the previous note is stopped, which is very nice for notes that are
very long and you don't want to hear the whole thing.
I just have a few questions. First, you know how in the main window,
pressing v gets you to the volocity dialog, q gets you into the quantize?
Maybe you could add a few more, like l for set llength, and i for
quantize
length. Going to the tools menu with alt t first is not a big deal at
all,
but I figured i'd just mention it.
Second, do you have any plans to have a section on the sight for note
transforms? I don't know the best way to do this, since it would just be
copying and pasting stuff into a text file, but it would be cool to have
eventually, just like instrument lists.
And last, I still don't understand what will happen to the transforms I
create when I upgrade to a newer version such as 1.56, for example. Will
I
still need to back them up?
Thanks for your great work!
