Hi!

Personally, I would be most interested in the ability to type "gui" to go to a
patch named "guitar", for example. That way you could add dividers that set
the bank and program to some dummy value, and name it something like "-Piano"
for the Piano category. On the other hand, having an instrument list as a
treeview where you can expand and collapse the different categories would be
very useful, especially if QWS could also provide an option to sort all patches
by bank/program and put them in one big listview, as that sometimes prooves
easier. This is the way it currently works for devices like the Fantom-X, and
while as I said it has its advantages it can get tedious when you just want to
see all patches within a single category rather than all patches sorted by
their bank/program. So all in all, thumbs up!

Subject: QWS List Little instrument list suggestion,

Hallo There,

In my mind, i've played with the following suggestion. I had a little
discussion on msn about it today, which made me post it to the list. I'm
curious what you all think.

My suggestion concerns instrument lists. I happen to have a Roland Juno-Stage
myself, a unit with over thousand built-in sounds. Using an instrument list, i
sometimes find it hard to navigate it. First letter navigation is possible, but
when you want an acoustic bass, you have to press the 'a' key multiple times.
It is not possible to use more than one letter for quick navigation. If that
would be possible, it could be a big step forward. My idea, however, is the
possibility to group the instruments into categories. For my Juno-Stage, for
example, i would like a separate category for the user bank, the gm2 set, the
separate drum categories and srx-board i'd like to buy in the future. I think
it won't be a huge change to the current instrument lists, as most of them have
the patches categorized by comments already.

I know there are some people who don't use instrument lists that frequently and
prefer program/bank navigation. But i'm also sure there are people who will
benefit from such a change. If it is not too much asked, and to difficult to
build it in, that is.
