What it sounds like you want is Portamento, which is controller 5 IIRC. This
will depend on if the sound source you're using understands it or not. I'd
suggest giving it a try.
There's also a controller in the 64-95 range that is the on/off switch for
Portamento, but I don't remember that one right off the top of my head.
