Well, your best bet then is to build your own sound font bank. Viena is
somewhat accessible and is free, so you can assemble your bank as you like.
It'll also output a list of all the sounds, so you can use that to build your
inst file for QWS. I've done this, and it's not that hard though it can get to
be sort of tedious if you have a lot of sounds you want to do. On the other
hand, you can pick and choose exactly the sound you want to use -- if the base
GS sound font you're using has a substandard open trumpet sound, you can find
one that you like better, snip the weak one from the SF2 bank, then import and
map the one you like in there instead.
I suggest you start off with a GS or XG sound map, though, and fill things in
around those sounds. This'll give you the most flexibility.
Also keep in mind that you're limited in number of samples per SF2 bank, so you
may have no choice but to use more than one bank to get your sounds all there.
I'm running 15 banks of sounds in BassMIDI with no problem, though some of that
is because I didn't merge certain banks of sounds, preferring to keep them out
so I can control where they go. (I've got converted sounds from back when I was
doing my own samples, for instance)
I posted a step by step method to create inst files from a patch list, using
Notepad and Excel, that turns out very clean and fast inst files. Let me know
if this needs reposting.

Subject: QWS List best soundfonts?

just so I won't be looking around everywhere, since I'm using coolsoft, I'm
looking for a good, high quality sounding sf2 set. I like my sounds all in one,
cause IDK how this would do if I add multiple soundfonts at ones. I like my
sounds in 1 sf2 file. if any of you have used sebilius or musescore before, you
know how good those soundfonts sound, and the vast majority of instruments they
serve. I want something similar. plenty of piano, pitch percussion, a lot of
drums (symphony, marching band, regular sets and more), strings, winds and
brass. heck, I'm even looking for some that they didn't have, like a band
organ, caliopi, penny whistle, slide whistle, springs or whatever that
instrument they use to make like those boings in country/cartoon, same with
those bells you shake and use some mechanism to make the ring slide, and
ratchets of course. sorry if much to ask, but been playing around with a few
soundfonts here and there, and they're OK, but was looking for something more.
I'd like to be free if possible. thanks in advance if anyone can help.
here's an example of the sound I was looking for. was quite impressed at the
quality here!
