Cool, the list is working again. Let's check out if you get this response
this time.
For most of this you'll find transforms that let you do these things.
"Slides" tend to involve Portamento, which will be dependent on your sound
source understanding it. You turn it off and on using controller 65, IIRC,
with controller 5 for the amount, possibly with controller 37 if you're
using a sound source that does high-density controllers. There's also
controller 85, which is called "Portamento Control", though I've yet to find
a good explanation on how it works outside of amount (5 and possibly37) and
the on/off switch. (65) You're going to have to work in slow tempi for your
trills and other ornaments unless you do them in step time entry. (QWS's
event editing system is counter-intuitive to me, so I tend not to use it if
I can get away from it) Also remember that if your sound source uses RPN
values you can set the pitch bend amount your device responds with, anywhere
from off to 127 notes. For info on this do a web search on RPN/NRPN and
you'll find good explanations out there.
Dynamics are a function of one of three factors. First you've got note
velocity, which handles the dynamics of individual notes. You can either set
this for individual notes in step entry or use velocity scaling (the V
shortcut key) to set it for groups of notes.
Your second important method is volume, continuous controller number 7. This
is more for overall track volumes, and you can set this either by inserting
controllers in the control editor or by accessing the track properties
(Alt+Enter is the fastest shortcut key) and setting initial volume in the
volume box.
Your third way to affect volume is controller 11, Expression. This is
traditionally used for individual changes in a track. Think of the Volume
parameter as the overall volume of a piece, while expression is used for
short term changes.
Tempo is handled using CTRL+T or by inserting tempo changes in a track,
typically track 1. You can also use the progression tool to make gradual
changes in any of these.
Your life will get a lot easier if you can pick up a keyboard, even a basic
25 key USB controller with one wheel. Things like dynamic controller
changes,
pitch bends, and subtle controller touches go from tedious to intuitive and
instinctive.

Hello there, just wondering how to do the tempo changing in the middle of a
song, dynamics, and bends? To unsubscribe or change list options, see
