Note that you can prep things for dropping into a spreadsheet -- the find and
replace in Notepad does things that other text editing programs can't, like
being able to replace a dash with a tab that lets you drop things into
spreadsheets and have things wind up in different columns. It can speed things
a lot.
Glad my prior instructions helped out.

Hi Nicole

Thanks so much for responding.

I have found the instructions on the list archive since I posted this question,

So I am busy using a spreadsheet program to input the required

Data from my instrument’s data list.

Another 2 hours and I should be done with the project.

I have a Yamaha DGX640.

Thanks again for responding – so appreciate it!

David

Okay, first I need to ask two questions.

1. Do you have a patch list for the instrument? It can be a list in
text format or it can be a Cakewalk instrument definition file. (This is the
easier way if you can get it)

2. How does your chosen instrument handle bank change commands? If
it was made before the mid-90's then this isn't a difficult question, it
handles them using only the MSB. (controller 0) After that you'll find this out
on the MIDI Implementation Chart in the back of the manual or end of the manual
file.

Also, what data resources do you have on your computer? Notepad is a given, but
do you have Excel? This makes it a *lot* easier but it's not mandatory.

Subject: QWS List Instrument definition help again please

Hi All

Sorry to bother, but due to both my one and only PC and a backup hard drive
packing up within a week of each other, I have to go through all the pains of
getting hardware and software setup again on new pc.

Can you please help me with instructions to make an instrument definition file?
 Saved it, and lost it!

Went to look on the QWS site, but couldn’t find it under articles or FAQ.

Thanks so much

David
