Yes, you can do a dump/load from some instruments by using the sequencer's sysex features. This may not work all that well for instruments that require handshaking, like pretty much everything Roland has ever made since the Jupiter 6. Depends on what you mean by portable. It's a Windows only program, but you can install to a thumb drive and run it anywhere that has some sort of MIDI pathway to a sound source. Note that hardware based setups and anything with driver level sound sources won't work very well if you change systems. Theoretically it should work on Windows based tablets and phones, but I don't know of anyone who's tried it. QWS works well with most hardware synths, with a couple of caveats. You've got to hand insert bank changes for Oberheim and earlier Kurzweil machines because QWS uses only the more standard CC0/32 standard for bank changes. And make sure you go over your MIDI specification sheet, as if the device doesn't respond to a particular controller or function it'll get no response from the message sent. This is especially important when dealing with controllers 0-31, All Notes Off, All Controllers Off, Local of/on, and NRPN/RPN based stuff. Also with tune request messages.

I am blind and more Kind ofa Hardware guy in Terms of Music Instruments. I think that QWS can be helpful together with Keyboards, synths and the like. I am not against complete DAW’s in General, but if a Tiny program like QWS, wich don’t Need a powerful Computer can do the Job, I prefer such Things. My first Question is: Is there a portable Version of QWS available or possible to make as well? I just found the installer, but to have a portable Version would be nice as well. Another Question: As I researched on Hardware synths, I stumbled across Midi Dumps/patch Dumps. Is it possible to make and Send as well as importing and exporting them with QWS? I found the idea amazing to use the PC as Kind of a preset storage with These Dumps and send them to the Instrument directly, if i understood this correctly. And if it is not too offtopic here or if it is okay to talk About, I am interested in recommendations regarding Synths, samplers and such wich we Blind users can use. I can share what my Setup is at the Moment as well, but only if that is okay. I hope for a good time on here.
