Does help(curve) talk about its 'xname' argument? Try curve(10*foofoo, from=0, to=17, xname="foofoo")
You will have to modify your function, since curve() will call it once with a long vector for the independent variable and func(rnorm(10), rnorm(10), mu=seq(0,5,len=501)) won't work right.
